How to choose a surgeon for your tummy tuck
By mytummytuck
I am a Mum of three and have had three C-sections and spent a year researching a good plastic surgeon to carry out a tummy tuck operation to get rid of my apron (a flap of skin as a result of the c-sections). Choosing your plastic surgeon can be quite a daunting process and here are some helpful tips to get you started. This information is based on my research in the UK and whilst the principles should apply to anywhere in the world the organisations and qualifications may differ from country to country so please do your homework carefully.
BAAPS – British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons:
This is a very useful site to find out if your surgeon is registered or to find an approved surgeon in your area, there is also loads of information on surgical procedures.
BAPRAS – British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons:
This is a highly regarded cosmetic surgery membership. It can take many years of dedication and hard work to gain entry to this organisation. Again you can look up surgeons and there is loads of useful information about cosmetic procedures.
In the UK all surgeons must hold or have held an NHS (National Health Service) consultants position.
All surgeons should be FRCS (plast) (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons)
Make sure your surgeon is a specialist in the area you require.
Before and after photographs can show you what to expect but please remember we all get different results.
Always meet your surgeon and make sure you are comfortable with the rapport between you. You must be able to trust your surgeon 100%. Google your surgeon's name and the company he works for and see what information exists on the internet about your chosen surgeon.
Remember that surgery is for life so choose the surgeon for his skills, never just go for the cheapest you may regret this for the rest of your life!
Take your time because surgery is not for everyone; be absolutely sure you want the cosmetic surgery done.
Remember you will need to have family or friends to help you during your recovery; full recovery can take around 6 weeks - have you got the support in place?

Good Luck!
